Fresh water fishing

Enjoy a relaxing day fishing on the dam

For the fishing enthusiasts, we have an upper and lower dam both stocked with large mouth and spotted bass.

Please note, all fishing is catch and release.
– Own fishing tackle and equipment required.

Largemouth Bass
Micropterus salmoides

Largemouth bass have bodies that are both elongated and thick.
They are the largest of the black basses, reaching a maximum recorded adult length of 97 cm and a maximum recorded adult weight of 10.1 kg.
This species typically ranges from 30-40 cm in length and weigh on average 0.45-1.36 kilograms. Females tend to be larger than males. Males generally don’t greyish color.
They have a deep notch between their dorsal fins, along with a dark black exceed 40 cm long, but the females can reach up to 56 cm long.

Spotted Bass
Micropterus punctulatus

Also called spotty is a species of North American freshwater fish belonging to the sunfish family (Centrarchidae).  It is noted for the rows of dark spots below the lateral line. One of the black basses spotted bass can reach an overall length of almost 64 cm (25 in), and weights of up to 5.2 kg (11 lb). It can live to an age of at least seven years. Preferring cool and warm mountain streams and reservoirs with rocky bottoms, the spotted bass feeds on insects, crustaceans, frogs, annelid worms and smaller fish. It is often mistaken for the similar and more common largemouth bass. A convenient way to distinguish between a largemouth and a spotted bass is by the size of the mouth. A spotted bass will resemble a largemouth bass in coloration but will have a smaller mouth.

Spend some time

Wait for nightfall for

Stargazing

There are a few reasons why stargazing is so popular at Good Hope farm: being further away from the big city lights is key to good stargazing as there is less light pollution, but there are some other factors that can enhance your stargazing experience here on the farm.

Being at higher altitude helps, because you’ll be above the dense air at low altitudes that contains haze, fog, and smoke that mask your view of the stars meaning the skies are clearer.
